Red Wine, Anthem, Sonoma County 2004
Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc from the Robert Hunter Vineyard in the heart of the Sonoma Valley are the backbone of Anthem, our premium Meritage blend. These grapes are first blended and then fermented, pressed and aged in French oak barrels to allow their complex, intense flavors to marry. After two years, we add a small amount of the very best wines from the vintage to complete this unique proprietary blend. We selected 5.75% Merlot, 4.25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, all from the McCoy vineyard, as the finishing wines for our 2004 vintage. Anthem is a unique twist on traditional Meritage, presenting the spicy tobacco and cedar notes that are typical of Petit Verdot and the exotic perfume and juicy, luscious mouthfeel of Malbec.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Kings Ridge Vineyard (2004)
Details
Our Kings Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is grown along the coastal region of Sonoma County. This unique 10-acre vineyard is perched high above the fog line at an elevation of 1500 feet, in what locals refer to as the “banana belt”. Basking in the warm sunlight during the day and cooled by the evening ocean breezes, you can view the Pacific Ocean from the vineyards highest elevation. Because of the steepness of the terrain, this small vineyard must be cared for by hand by owner and caretaker, retired Hewlett Packard engineer Ron Sikorski, who left the corporate world to live a simpler lifestyle. He has methodically and solely planted one acre at a time over the last decade. Because of the remote location of this small vineyard, the majority of Ron’s time is given to the care and maintenance of his vines, including keeping the local wildlife at bay who love to dine on his fruit around harvest time. This hillside vineyard surrounded by lush forests of deciduous trees, and its rich rocky soils produce a small crop of highly extracted and intense Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2004 vintage was an exceptional year that provided us with a small quantity of this fantastic wine. The flavors are true mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. This dense and concentrated Cabernet with its deep black/purple color, displays layers of intriguing flavor with each sip. A compelling nose of licorice and cassis are followed by a full-bodied lush wine with lots of extract, sweet tannins and a super-long finish.

Cabernet Franc, McCoy Vineyard, Sonoma Valley (2005)
Details
A late ripening varietal in general, this particular Cabernet Franc sits perched along the western slopes of the Mayacamas Range. A typical day here has nice & cool mornings with fog lasting until almost noon. Cabernet Franc is usually picked in late October, and 2005 was no exception. The small intensely flavorful clusters are hand-picked at a mature 25.5 Brix. Gently de-stemmed & then pumped directly to tank, it fermented for 14 days and was put to barrel by the end of November, split evenly between new & old French oak barrels. A nice slow fermentation gives the wine richness and viscosity. 5% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were added to round out its lush mouthfeel.
